Resident Orcas all day!! Aug 30th, 2008.

L73

We headed out west this morning after receiving reports that members of Lpod had been sighted near Beachey Head. As we arrived on scene the first Orca we encountered was L73 the Ruffles sprouter. We watched a number of the Orcas including Gaia, foraging for Salmon as they made their way out west. Just as we were about to head for home we witnessed a wonderful breach by one of the youngster! On our way home we stopped off at Race Rocks to show our passengers the bounty of wildlife at this Marine Protected area.

During our evening tour we had to travel almost to Active Pass in order to catch up with Jpod, Kpod and a few Lpod members who had been earlier sighted along the west coast of San Juan Islands. We arrived on scene in time to see some high speed porpoising, surfing in the stern wave of a BC Ferry and many tailslaps as the pods headed to Active Pass.

A stunning Pacific Coast sunset was the perfect end to a wonderful day on the water!

Superpod again! Aug 27th, 2008.

Today we had an amazing encounter with Superpod, all three Southern Resident Orca pods (J, K & L pod) off the west coast of the San Juan Islands.
