Today we encountered Resident Orcas, members of L-pod, J-pod & K-pod, out west just past Sooke! The Resident Orcas were moving East towards Victoria and seemed in a very playful mood with lots of activity observed including several breaches:) The Resident Orcas we encountered included L41 “Mega” and his two sisters L77 “Matia” & L94 “Calypso” with their calves! L41 “Mega” was born in 1977 and is now the oldest Male Orca in the SRKW population. J2 “Granny”, born in 1911, is the oldest female in the SRKW’s and oldest Orca we have ever known and she is still going strong:)
