Resident Orcas and Gray Whale in the afternoon! Aug 1st, 2010.

Here are a few amazing images from this afternoon's encounters with members of J, K & L-pod plus the Gray Whale!

We headed towards False Bay this afternoon and came upon our first Orcas a few miles offshore foraging for Salmon. In particular we observed a young Orca hunting and catching a Salmon just a few hundred yards from our boat!

We also saw a nice group of L-pod moving offshore as well as a large male that we believe was L87 "Oynx".

On our way home we encountered the Gray Whale in Oak Bay, which was a bonus treat for our passengers:)

I hope the sightings in August continues to be as good as they were today!

J & L-pod in the morning! Aug 1st, 2010

Here are a few images from our morning encounter with members of J & L-pod off San Juan Island.

The Orcas were actively foraging this morning and we watched L87 "Oynx" chasing a Salmon with just the dorsal fin visible at the surface, just like a Shark! We also encountered J28 "Polaris" and her calf J46 inshore.

As we watched the Orcas we could see they were slowly making their way north but did not seem in any great hurry to go anywhere.

What a wonderful way to start the month of August!

July 31st. Evening adventure with J & K-pod!

Here are a few images from our evening adventure with J & K-pod.

We headed out with our excited passengers this evening and encountered members of J & K-pod just near False Bay! The Orcas were in a very active mode and not long after we arrived on scene we witnessed some amazing breaches and cartwheels:)

A stunning sunset was the perfect end to a wonderful day on the water and what a way to end the month of July!
