T20's & T49's Transient Orcas off Victoria! April 3rd, 2011.

Today off Victoria we encountered two groups of Transient Orcas, the T20's & T49's! The groups were encountered in the Strait of Juan De Fuca.

Transient Orcas prey on Marine Mammals, unlike Resident Orcas that feed on Salmon, and are an apex predator! Locally we see Transient Orcas primarily feeding on Harbour Seals, Harbor & Dall's Porpoise and California & Steller Sealions. There have been rare occasions where a group of Transient Orcas have attacked a Minke Whale or even some of the Gray Whales that travel into Puget Sound. However, most of the time Transient Orcas will feed on the smaller prey animals and in our local area the favorite prey is the Harbour Seals.

Apart from the Orcas our guests also got to see Bald Eagle, Harbour Seals and even Oyster Catchers!

J-pod encounter to start our 2011 Whale Watching Season! April 2, 2011

After a long cold winter, we finally had our first whale watching trip of the 2011 season and it could not have been better. Today we had a wonderful encounter with member of J-pod (Resident Orcas)!

After a hard winter a new season is here!

We will be dedicating all our trips this season to the memory of J1 "Ruffles", the oldest male Resident Orca known in the southern Resident Orca population. RIP "Ruffles", you may be gone but you will never be forgotten!

Most important of all the Whales are already being sighted in out area!

Our crazy but dedicated crew is ready and eager to pass on their knowledge and passion of the local marine life:)

Our boats are ready to take our guests on the Ultimate Whale Watching Adventure:)

Let us all hope that 2011 is a great year for the Whales & Marine Life we love and in particular the Southern Resident Orcas.

We must all continue to put pressure on the Canadian & US Governments to do more to protect the Orcas of J, K & L-pod and the most important issue facing the Orcas is a lack of Salmon. Together we can spread the message of "Save the Wild Salmon"!
