Transient Orcas near Victoria! April 9th, 2012

On April 9th, we encountered two different pods of Killer Whales not far from Victoria! The first group of Orcas was at the top of Haro Strait and had come from near Lime Kiln Whale Park. The second group of Orcas were encountered near Kelp Reef and were attacking a Steller Sealion. Thankfully for the sealion this seemed more of a training exercise as the Orcas attacked the animal for a while and then moved on.

Transient Orcas near Victoria! April 9th, 2012

Here are a few images by Ron Bates, MMRG, from todays encounter with Transient Orcas near Victoria. We had two different groups of Orcas, the first at the top end of Haro Strait and the second near Kelp Reef. The second group was actually attacking a large Steller Sealion, but it seemed like more of a training exercise as the Sealion did get away in the end.

Highlights from our first few trips of 2012!

Here are a few images from our first trips of the 2012 season! We have had great sightings on these trips including Harbor Seals, Harbor Porpoise, Dall's Porpoise, California & Steller Sealions, Northern Elephant Seals, Bald Eagles and Transient Orcas:)
