What a day to be on the water with the Tall Ships (Including the mock canon battle), a Humpback Whale, Porpoise and flat calm seas! In the evening we were fortunate enough to observe one of the most spectacular sunsets of the year as well as the sun lit Olympic Mountains and Mount Baker! It is days like this that make me so grateful for the job I do:)

Tall Ships Festival! June 26th to June 29th, 2008.

Here are just a few pictures from the Victoria Tall Ships Festival, June 26th to June 29th, 2008. The Tall Ships last visited the port of Victoria in 2005 and this years event has been anticipated by both the people of Victoria and the many visitors this event attracts.

Every evening a number of the ships sail out of the harbor and stage a mock canon battle. This is one of the main highlights of the event with spectators lining the shore and various vessels to watch the spectacle. Our vessels leaving for the evening tours had a ring side seat and our passengers were thrilled!

J1 "Ruffles"

J2 "Granny" now the oldest female in the SRKW estimated to have been born in 1911.

J & K Pod were encountered off San Juan Island today and both our vessels set out and caught up with the Orcas near Middle Bank. When we first arrived we saw several members high speed porpoising and also witnessed a number of breaches.

In the evening the Orcas had moved west and encountered near Beaumont Shoals, less than 30 minutes after we had left the harbor! We had an incredible trip as only our 2 vessels were on the water this evening:) We saw J1 "Ruffles" first of all swimming by himself but saw J2 "Granny" not too far away. Other Orcas we observed were J16 "Slick" and her offspring J42 and J26 "Mike", plus K40 "Raggedy". Just as we were about to head home for the evening we observed an incredible breach in the sunset that took all our breath away! It was a sight none of us onboard will forget and the perfect end to another superb day.

I never get tired of this job:)
