I don't care if you agree with the concept of Whale Watching or not but I am asking everyone to make comments to NOAA about there proposed regulations. I do the job... I do not because of money (far from it) but for my love of these amazing mammals known as Orcas. NOAA's proposed regulations will do nothing to get the SRKW's off the endangered species list and in fact will only affect the one group out there every day that is educating and making the public passionate about these sacred Whales. We already have regulations and laws in place, but no enforcement. The Pacific Whale Watching Association is asking NOAA to keep the regulations that exist, expand them into law and strictly enforce them. The PWWA is also asking for better public education, especially boaters, and that the biggest issue of a lack of Salmon is tackled.
So please, I ask you all that if you care for Orcas in the wild you will take time to make comments on this site and demand that NOAA enforces the current regulations and improves the Salmon Stocks in the Salish Sea.
The proposals by NOAA will ban kayakers from watching Orcas within a 1/2 mile of San Juan Island but continue to allow the Seiners to take 6 million Salmon out of the water right off the coast of San Juan Island!
So please visit the NOAA comment link site (See link in the right hand side column) and sign the petition at the top of this page on the right hand side. Together we can save the Salmon and the Southern Resident Killer Whales.
