Evening encounter with a Gray Whale & J-pod! May 21st, 2011

Poor Seagull falls prey to a Bald Eagle!

Large Gray Whale!

Here are a few images from this evenings encounter with a Gray Whale and J-pod! This was our second evening trip of the year and it was a wonderful evening to be on the water.

We were heading through Oak Bay on our way to Sa Juan Island when we suddenly encountered a Gray Whale and at least 4 Steller Sealions in Bains Channel, a real bonus! After spending a few minutes with the Gray Whale we continued on our way and encountered J-pod near Andrew's Bay heading south. The Orcas were spread out with some close to shore whilst others were about a mile offshore.

Our highlight was when we saw J28 "Polaris" & the Cookie Crew pass by our boat a couple of hundred yards away as they moved swiftly south! A stunning sunset greeted us as we approached Victoria Harbour at the end of another thrilling tour:)
