10 Transient Orcas South East of Victoria! May 13th, 2011.

So much for Friday the 13th;) Today we were the first boat (thanks to a friend on a local hill) to encounter a group of 10 Transient Orcas South East of Victoria:)

Amongst the Orcas we managed to identify T75, T75A, T73B, the T77's and an unknown male. The Orcas had just made a kill prior to our arrival on scene and then traveled across the Strait of Juan De Fuca towards Hein Bank. Later they switched direction and heading back West towards Dungeness Spit.

Apart from the Orcas we also managed to find 2 Minke Whales at Hein Bank and also at least 6 Bald Eagles at the Chain Islets.

It was a wonderful day to be on the water:)

It was a great experience. We had sun, calm waters, visible mountains AND whales!

We would definitely do it all over again. We learned a fair bit about the different sorts of orcas. Big thanks to the helpful and friendly staff on-board!
