Breaching Humpback Whale & Resident Orcas! Aug 17th, 2013
Today we had a magical day with members of L-pod in the morning including L54 "Ino", her newest calf L117 "Keta" (born in 2010) and her 2 son's, L100 "indigo" and L108 "Coho", plus L84 "Nyssa" and L88 "Wave Walker". We watched them as they foraged up and down the west side of San Juan Island.
In the afternoon we were heading over towards Lime Kiln Whale park to see the Resident Orcas when we heard about a mother & calf Humpback Whales that were just north of Chatham Island. As we arrived on scene we watched as the Calf breached several times!! In fact I lost count after 20+ breaches by this energetic Humpback Whale calf, it was an incredible sight and one that thrilled the passengers and even the veteran crew:)
We then headed over to Lime Kiln and had another intimate encounter with the members of L-pod we had been with in the morning.
It was another unforgettable day in the Salish Sea with Five Star Whale Watching!
