J Pod out West May 24, 2007.

After several days of hanging out near the San Juan Islands, J Pod has been observed out West today between Otter Point and Sheringham. It is not known for sure why they headed out West but some speculation is that perhaps they are looking and listening for the two other Southern Resident Orca Pods, K & L. It could also be that they found a good source of their favourite food, Salmon and in particular Chinook Salmon during the summer.
Whatever the reasons for this move out West, it provided our guests with an opportunity to see another part of the magnificent coast line of Vancouver Island as they traveled aboard Fastcat towards J Pod. Our guests were thrilled to be able to spend time viewing several members of J Pod including J1 "Ruffles", J2 "Granny" and J16 "Slick" with her new calf J42.
Orcas, glorious weather and picturesque scenery, what a perfect way to spend the day!
