Boaters near orcas face more scrutiny
Whilst I applaud the efforts to protect the Orcas I believe more effort needs to go towards saving and increasing the wild salmon population. The Whale Watching industry is very respectful of the whales and follow the strict guidelines that are in force. Soundwatch and Straitwatch have done an excellent job of educating boaters on the way to behave around whales and the instances of whale harassment has been decreasing. However, when a incident is observed they are some what powerless and hopefully this is where DFO & the RCMP can help.
