Transient Orcas near Protection Island! April 18th, 2010

Here are a few images of the Transient Orcas we encountered his afternoon.

When we first heard reports of Orcas it was by someone living near Port Townsend who had spotted he Orcas at 9.30am. However, the Orcas were not spotted again until around 1.30pm near Dungeness Spit, which is where we headed at 2.00pm.

As we cross...ed the Strait Of Juan De Fuca we received a report that the Orcas had now turned East back towards Admiralty Inlet.

When we arrived on scene the Orcas were being very playful with tailslaps, tail flukes, pectoral waves being seen. Then as we continued to watch we saw signs of the Orcas making a kill, probably of a Seal.

On our way home we stopped at the Chain Islets to see the Harbor Seals that hang out on these Island.

Another great day on the water!
