Thursday, April 15, 2010 "Let's Have A T Party!"

Well, at least that's what one Transient (Marine-Mammal-Eating) Killer Whales, or "T's" as we call them in Marine Naturalist lingo, must have said because today we saw over 20 of them in one location!

Sometimes it appears that Transient Killer Whales get together in these larger groups to socialize and hunt.

Animals that we easily identified included T87 (Male with long notch on the top trailing edge of his dorsal fin), T63 aka "Chain Saw" (Male with two tooth shaped notches on the top trailing edge of his dorsal fin), T88 (Female double angle on the leading edge of her dorsal fin).... Ron Bates of the Marine Mammal Research Group (MMRG) will review these photos and we will be better able to provide a more complete list tomorrow.

But for now just enjoy these photos and, yes, be very jealous of the lucky passengers who went out today on Five Star Whale Watching's Expedition Catamaran "Fast Cat"!!
