Afternoon Transient Orca encounter! May 9th, 2010.

Harbor Porpoise

Here are a few images from this afternoon's encounter with 2 Transient Orcas (T124c & CA058) in Haro Strait!

We had just left the harbor this afternoon when reports started to come in that 2 Transient Orcas (Marine Mammal Eaters) had been spotted near Darcy Island. As we arrived on scene we soon i.d. the two Orcas as T124c and a California Transient, CA058, who had first been sighted a few weeks ago near Race Rocks. These two Orcas have been hanging out together for almost a week now and it was great to see them again.

As we followed the two Orcas they traveled in a mostly southerly direction towards Oak Bay. It looked like they were in hunting mode!

Apart from the 2 Orcas we also saw a number of Harbor Porpoise, Harbor Seals and a Bald Eagle over near Lime Kiln Lighthouse.

It was a wonderful afternoon to be on the water:)
