Minke Whale near Hein Bank! May 8th, 2010.
Here are a few images from todays incredible afternoon cruise!
With calm seas and warm sunny skies we were confident we would find an abundance of wild life in the Salish Sea and we were not disappointed!
Just a mile south of Hein Bank we encountered a Minke Whale in a obvious feeding pattern. Minke Whales are often found near Hein Bank as it is an area that the nutrients and bait fish concentrate, thus attracting various Marine Mammals such as the Minke.
After watching the Minke Whale circle the area for a while we headed North into Haro Strait and came across over 40 Harbor Porpoise and a lone Harbor Seal!
This was probably our warmest and calmest day on the water so far this season.
