Resident Orcas near False Bay! Aug 26th 2011

What a way to start the day, early this morning we received a report that 40+ Resident Orcas had been seen near Beaumont Shoals heading towards San Juan Island! We headed out at 9.00am with our vessel full of excited passengers and we were on scene with many Orcas, including J27 "Blackberry", less than an hour after leaving the dock:)

Whilst we were watching the Orcas we could see they were in a playful mood with lots of tail slaps, tail lobs, spyhops, Pectoral waves & slaps and even a number of breaches!

Apart from J27, we also i.d. a number of other Orcas including J16 "Slick" and her calf J42 "Echo", who was in a very playful mood today:)

On our way home we stopped at the Chain Islets to let our passengers see the Harbor Seals and various Marine Birds, including Pelagic Cormorants.

It was a wonderful start to another perfect day on the Salish Sea!
