T31 and T124's off Victoria waterfront:) Aug 14th, 2011

We had a wonderful encounter off Victoria today with T31 and the T124's pod of Transient Orcas! T31 is a personal favorite of mine and also Ron Bates, MMRG, who has been tracking this old guy for over 15 years:) T31 was a little south of the main group of Transient (marine mammal eaters) Orcas and all the Orcas were seen moving through the Chain Islets, an important pupping ground for their main prey, Harbour Seals. The Orcas eventually made their way to Race Rocks where their was evidence of at least one kill, probably of one the Harbour Seals that use race Rocks as a haul out area.

During our tour we stopped off at Race Rocks MPA to show our passengers the wonderful diverse wildlife that can be found at this important Marine Sanctuary, including Harbour Seals, California Sealions and Stellar Sealions.

It was another wonderful day in the Salish Sea:)
