July 14th

SuperCats 3 trips today found us in the company of our resident killer whales here off Victoria waterfront. we were treated well today! Part of L pod were first encountered in the morning, just off Oak Bay, hunting in the waters around Chain Island and Trial Island. So after viewing this delightful group we headed to Race Rocks to look at the comical elephant seals, 4 of which were bathing in the waters at the base of the ramp.

The afternoon trip found all 4 elephant seals hauled up onto, and up the ramp, enjoying the last of the sunshine of the day. We had a small group of L's including L21 and the L5's just off Albert Head, and heading south towards Williams Head. A nice little visit with young L108 was great to see (photo)
Our evening cruise ship trip found us out north of Discovery, with K pod. We had good old 96yr old Lummi (K7) pass by, and the rest of her family was spread out enjoying the salmon buffet that seemed to be going on down there. As we were heading home, passing by Chatham Island, Jeff spotted 2 bald eagles poised below an arbutus tree that was beautifully lit by the soft sunset light. Incredible composition. Excellent end to an excellent day.
