July 8th - SuperCat
The morning trip found us with J pod and K pod in resting formation off of Williams Head, on the SuperCat heading towards Race Rocks. We first encountered the 21 animals of K pod lined up in a beautiful resting formation, with the 24 animals of J pod lined up slightly behind. The sounds of the exhaling whales were amazing as they swam past the SuperCat. We were also treated to Harbour Seals resting on the rocks at Race Rocks, and Northern Elephant Seals blowing bubbles through their nose near the Race Rock light house. Our morning journey ended with the J's still resting passing the break water of the Victoria Inner Harbour, allowing everyone on board a beautiful opportunity to see each individual whale of the J family groups.
The afternoon trip found us with a Sea Otter off of Discovery Island (refer to Chelsea's photo), and the J's foraging and socializing in Haro Strait. We had a great view of J26 (Mike) and his mother J16 (Slick). We were treated to a few breaches and tail slaps. What an Amazing Day!
