July 15th (Supercat)

We had a fun day with L-pod. We found them in the morning off of Eagle Point on San Juan Island. Our 2pm trip found us 5 miles south of Victoria with the whales heading west. We saw a ton of breaches and activity as the orcas took advantage of the momentum of the lumpy water conditions. Our evening trip took us out west, where the whales were south of Beechey Head. They continued west going head-on into the flood tide.

Thank you so much for our 2pm trip on the Supercat. It was just amazing to see so many Orcas - I was in tears. I have wanted to come to Canada for so many years and go whale-watching. We were meant to be going out from Vancouver with another outfit, but the boat had mechanical problems - I'm sure we had a better trip with Five Star! If only our camera work had been better - no stills, just a few fins - but at least we managed a few good shots on the camcorder. I never realised you could feel seasick in your own living room - I certainly did when I was trying to edit out the bits without any sign of the whales!
