Jpod and members of Lpod. Sept 14th 2007.

This morning we headed 7miles South East of Trail Island where we caught up with Jpod with members of Lpod travelling towards San Juan Island. The Orcas were in mostly resting formation and it was beautiful to see them rise in synchronicity. During the morning encounter we saw J1 "Ruffles" and J2 "Granny", J28 "Polaris", and our passengers were especially excited when we saw J16 "Slick" and her 4 month old daughter J42.

On the way home we had time to stop at the Chain Islands and see the Cormorant fledglings as well as a number of Harbor Seals soaking up the sun.

In the afternoon we headed towards False Bay where we caught up with the Orcas once again but this time they were actively foraging and socializing. We saw several tailslaps and fluke waves as well as some breaching. A number of the Orcas were being very playful and were also seen touching each other. When we placed our hydrophone in the water this afternoon the Orcas vocalizations could be clearly heard.
It was a beautiful day to be on the water!
