What an amazing start to the month of Sepember with Jpod off the West Coast of the San Juan Islands all day today. Our passengers throughout the day enjoyed encounters with various members of Jpod including the newest member J42 (just a few months old), her mother J16 "Slick", J1 "Ruffles", J2 "Granny" and many more of the 25 members that make up Jpod.
In the evening we caught up with the Pod near Pile Point and had an incredible encounter. We saw J1 and J2 swimming close to each other when we first arrived on scene. Later we caught up with J11 "Blossom" swimming with her older son J27 "Blackberry", daughter J31 "Tsuchi" and 4 year old male calf J39 "Mako". I also identified J28 "Polaris" as well as J22 "Oreo" swimming with the "cookie crew", her offspring J34 "Doublestuf" and J38 "Cookie" another calf who was born in 2003.
On our way home we stopped at the Chain Islands to look at the Harbor Seals and various Cormorants and Gulls. A breathtaking sunset marked another unforgettable day on the water!
