Jpod near Turn Point and Pender Island. Sept 2nd 2007.

In this picture you can clearly see where Ruffles (J1) gets his name from!

We encountered a group of very playful Dalls Porpoise today and we had a real thrill when they started to ride our bow wave!

J14 & J40
J16 & J42

Health Warning!! You may need Sunglasses to look at this picture:) This is our Naturalist Rachel sporting he hot Orange pants during her last trip before returning to school! Good luck Rachel it was fun working with you and we look forward to seeing you back next year, with the pants;)

Jpod was encountered this morning near Kellet Bluffs moving north. This pattern of moving North along the West Coast of the San Juan Islands is typical of Jpod and they usually continue North through Active Pass before either heading towards the Fraser River or back South towards the San Juans.

In the afternoon we caught up with Jpod just North of Turn Point heading towards Pender Island. Within minutes of our arrival we saw J1 "Ruffles" swimming close by. We also saw J30 "Riptide", J14 "Samish" with her calf J40 "Suttles" and J16 "Slick" with her calf J42.

On our journey to Jpod we came across a very playful group of Dalls Porpoises who began to Bow Ride the wave of our bow. Several animals darted in from the side and played right by our boat. It was a real thrill to see these agile Cetaceans move so gracefully and swiftly through the water.
