Jpod and members of Lpod. Sept 15th 2007.

This afternoon we headed out to Heine Bank where we caught up with Jpod and members of Lpod again. As we arrived on scene we could see a lot of high speed porpoising and foraging for Salmon. Orcas can easily reach speeds of 20 knots when in pursuit of prey. Apart from the foraging and porpoising we also observed much social interaction between the Orcas. When we put down our hydrophone we could hear the Orcas were being very vocal with lots of squeaks and clicks.
As we were watching the Orcas move towards False Bay we suddenly spotted a group of Dalls Porpoises closer to the shoreline and they also looked like they were chasing prey.
With clear blue skies and calm seas, the last 2 days have been a refreshing change from the thick fog we had earlier in the week.
