2 Humpback Whales south west of Victoria! May 10, 2012
Here are a few images from our encounter with 2 Humpback Whales south west of Victoria during our 2pm tour!
Yesterday we had to cancel our tour due to high winds but we headed out today confident that we would find some wildlife out in the Strait of Juan De Fuca and we were not disappointed:) We actually encountered not one but two Humpback Whales south west of Race Rocks!
As we got on scene the waves had built to 3' and it was amazing watching these large baleen whales surf in the waves. They trumpeted as they surfed the waves, obviously enjoying themselves as much as we were enjoying watching them. These Humpback Whales will be on their way to Alaska to feed on krill, but probably popped into the Strait of Juan De Fuca to feed and then continue on their journey north.
Apart from the Humpback Whales we also encountered Steller Sea Lions, Harbor Seals and Northern Elephant Seals!
