J, K & the L2's near Pender Island! May 4th, 2012
During our 2pm whale watching tour today we encountered a large number of Resident Orcas (Salmon eating Killer Whales) near Pender Island. We had first received a report that calls had been heard on Lime Kiln hydrophone (underwater micro phone) at 8am. The Orcas must have traveled past Victoria in the early hours of the morning. We managed to catch up with the Southern Resident Killer Whales near Pender Island and soon realized that for the first time this season we had some members of Lpod in the Salish Sea:) We hope that the rest of Lpod will soon return to the Salish Sea to join the rest of their family!
