Todays tours started out with Kpod off San Juan Island in the as we encountered Kpod south of False Bay moving North along the west coast of the Island. When we arrived we could see a lot of foraging but also witnessed Tail Flukes, Tail Slaps, a fantastic Spy hops and a couple of breaches.

In the afternoon it was discovered that Lpod was moving into wards Victoria from the west and not long after we arrived on scene we soon realized we had all of Lpod except the few animals that have been hanging out with Jpod. This was the first time all of Lpod had been seen in the area as prior to today 11 members of Lpod had been seen off Tofino. We followed Lpod as they moved from Church Rock past Race Rocks and then past Victoria Waterfront, it was great to see our largest pod almost all together once again.

In the evening we had an unforgettable trip as for the first time this season we had all the Southern Residents meet up to form our first true Superpod of the season. As the almost 90 whales came together we witnessed a breathtaking scene unfold as so many animals started to interact. The highlight was when a group of about 20 animals played in a tidal rip near our boat. We witnessed high speed porpoising, tailslaps, tailflukes, pectoral waves, cartwheels, spyhops and several dramatic breaches! It was an incredible experience that took my breath away.....

What a day to be on the water and one I will not soon forget.
