Northern Elephant Seal

A little bit of wind and fog did not dampen the spirits of our passengers or crew today who ventured out into the Salish Sea! Today was a perfect day to see the wide diversity of marine mammals and birds found around Victoria.

Our passengers were rewarded with encounters with Harbor Seals, including several pups, Steller Sealions, Harbor and Dalls Porpoise and a huge male Northern Elephant Seal on the boat ramp at Race Rocks. These Northern Elephant Seals can grow up to 13' long and weigh up to 4500lbs!!! The large proboscis of the male Northern Elephant Seals looks like a short Elephants Trunk, hence their name.

With sunny skies it was another great day to be on the water:)
