Minke Whale and the return of the Southern Resident Orcas:) July 12th, 2008.

During our morning and afternoon tours our passengers enjoyed an encounter with a very active Minke Whale and lunge feeding was even observed.

At 4.30pm this afternoon we received a report that the Resident Orcas, who had been out west for a couple of days, had been sighted heading inbound at Jorden River! By the time we headed out at 6.30 pm the Orcas had already made their way to Beachy head and we first encountered them just west of Race Rocks. Not long after arriving on scene we realized we had Jpod, Kpod and some Lpod members all heading towards us:) As we followed the Pods East we saw a lot of foraging, high speed porpoising and a number of Cartwheels.

The highlight of the evening was when we saw several breaches (at least 20) that lasted for almost 30 minutes, it was breathtaking and none of us lucky enough to witness this spectaclur event will soon forget!!!

We also stopped off at Race Rocks here we saw a Bald Eagle, 3 Steller Sealions, a number of Harbor Seals and even a lone Northern Elephant Seal.

Another incredible sunset was the finale to one of the best evenings of the year:)
