Southern Resident Orcas off San Juan Island! July 14th, 2008.
As the first boat out of the harbor today at 8.25am, it was our job to find the whales and find whales we did:) On a hunch from Ron Bates, MMRG, (who usually coordinates the daily search for the Whales) we headed over to False Bay on San Juan Islands and after a 10 minute search found Kpod heading North!!
For the first 20 minutes we were the only boat on scene until our sister vessel, 'Fastcat' also arrived and our two vessels filled with enthusiastic passengers enjoyed watching Kpod. We observed several breaches, spyhops, tailslaps and some very intimate behavior;)
On our way back to Victoria we then came across another 2 Orcas that our crew were the first to identify as Lpod members! What an unbelievable stroke of luck but what I have come to expect working at Five Star Whale Watching;)
In the afternoon our passengers were fortunate enough to watch members of Jpod, Kpod and several members of Lpod foraging (hunting) and socializing.
