6 Transient Orcas and 3 Humpback Whales!! Oct 3rd, 2008.

Dramatic Humpback Breach, the highlight of the day:)
Incredible evening sky.

We were one of only five boats out on the water this morning and despite thick fog 6 Transient Orcas were soon spotted near Race Rocks. We did not see any large males in this groups but did see a young calf. The Orcas were moving west and were later lost in the fog, so only the five morning boats got to see them.

Next we headed to Race Rocks to see the Seals & Sealions. We then decided to scout the area East of race Rocks as Humpback Whales had been seen in the area over the last few days. Sure enough we soon found not one but three of these large Baleen Whales, a real bonus for our passengers!

In the late afternoon we headed out on the water again and despite 3-4 foot waves and the fact no other boats were on the water, we soon picked up he 3 Humpback Whales a few miles south of Victoria. In fact we smelled the Humpbacks first and then as I looked behind I saw them surface, just before one of the animals made a very dramatic Breach! Two of the Humpbacks were the same mother & 2 year old calf we were watching the other day and the calf was again being very playful with various tail flukes and tail slaps:)

October continues to be another great month for Whale Watching!
