Breathtaking evening Superpod encounter! July 15, 2011
What a breathtaking Superpod encounter we had this evening with all three pods (J, K & L-pod) together off Middle Bank! The rain had stopped the sun was trying to peak through the clouds and we had flat calm water, with Whales in every direction:)
As we followed the Orcas West we switched from the US to Canadian side of the Strait of Juan De Fuca and the Orcas started to become a lot more active.
Whilst we sat with our engines switched off 4 Orcas appeared a hundred yards off our Port side and we could see some mating going on, it was a breathtaking and awe inspiring site! Incredible to think that the mating we observed could lead to a new calf being born in 16-17 months, which is the gestation period for Orcas:)
A stunning evening sky with various purple and pink hues was are reward as we headed home from another incredible evening on the Salish Sea!
