Transient Orcas & Humpback Whales! Aug 31st, 2011

What a day, while scanning the nutrient rich areas around Race Rocks this morning we encountered a you Humpback Whale feeding on Zooplankton, shortly after sighting the Humpback we got word that T31 a lone male Transient Killer Whale had been sighted nearby. T31 appeared to be resting taking slow shallow dives in the tide rips off Race Rocks. After visiting the Sea lions in Race Rocks and spotting a lone female Northern Elephant seal we proceeded north to catch up with a group of 4 Transient Orcas, shortly after we arrived the Orcas began to attack and eat a Harbour seal. It was a very rare and special morning with flat calm water, warm sunsine, a great group of passengers, and of course lots of marine mammal activity.
