Incredible Humpback Whale encounter! Sept 2nd, 2013

We had a breathtaking encounter with 3 Humpback Whales today, just a few miles south of Victoria! The first Humpback Whale was on its own a few miles to the NE of the two other Humpback Whales we encountered and the second two were being more active. We witnessed a wonderful head stand by one of the Humpback Whales, some lunge feeding, tail fluking, Pectoral waves and Pectoral Slaps. Watching these incredible giants (40 + tons)  of the ocean move so gently through the water is always a thrill:)

Whilst watching the Humpback Whales we saw some large Salmon leaping out of the water on several occasions. We also saw a large number of Harbor Porpoise moving through the water in search of fish.

At Race Rocks EPA we also saw hundreds of Harbor Seals and both Steller & California Sea Lions.

It was another magical day on the water and the perfect way to spend Labour Day:)
