Resident Orcas, a Humpback Whale and Transient Orcas! Sept 5th, 2013
Today showed once again why September is one of the best months to go whale watching as we encountered playful Resident Orcas near Hein Bank! We watched several breaches, spyhops, tail lobs and back flips as the Resident Orcas played together. Then one of our passengers spotted a Humpback Whale at Oak Bay Flats:) We watched as the Humpback Whale rose a few times before showing its tail flukes as it went on a deep dive. The Humpback Whale was identified by Alisa Schulman-Janiger as BC0409. We were thinking nothing could top that when we heard about a group of Transient Orcas had been spotted west of Victoria heading right to the Harbour. We encounter the Transient Orcas (the TO10's) right at Ogden Point breakwater! It doesn't get much better than that:)
