Oct 2, 2013 - Superpod, Humpback Whales & Dall's Porpoise!

What an incredible encounter today with a Superpod of Resident Orcas, 3 Humpback Whales and Dall's Porpoise all within a couple of miles of each other:) We headed over to Lime Kiln after receiving a report that a large number of Resident Orcas had been spotted and 3 Humpback Whales close by. As we were heading towards Lime Kiln Capt. Trev, spotted some Dall's Porpoise rooster tailing (swimming at high speed) and as we got closer they began to bow ride our boat:)

We then headed over to the Orcas and Humpback Whales. The Humpback Whales were moving north in Haro Strait so we spent a bit of time watching them before returning to the Superpod of Resident Orcas! We saw a lot of tail flukes from the Humpback Whales when we were with them as they deep dived.

The Orcas were spread out doing a lot of hunting for fish (foraging) but we did see a couple of breaches and spyhops as the Orcas moved south past Lime Kiln.

It was a spectacular day to be on the water:)
