Morning Minke Whale encounter! July 2nd, 2011

This morning we headed out on a private charter with a wonderful group of guests all the way from Australia:) It was one of the nicest morning's of the year so far with calm seas, the sun out and actually felt like summer!

We managed to find a lot of wildlife this morning including a Bald Eagle at the Chain Islets, Harbour Seals, Harlequin Ducks, Harbour Porpoise and at least 5 Minke Whales at Salmon Bank! Two of the Minke Whales we encountered were a Mother & Calf pairing and as we sat with our engines off the calf popped up about 100' from our boat:)

We also watched the calf lunge feeding as it went after bait balls consisting of Sandlance, a small thin fish.

The Olympic Mountains and Mt. Baker were also stunning this morning and provided even more reasons to be glad to be on the water!
