Jpod again to start off June:) June 1st , 2008.

J2 "Granny" Tail Slaps!

What a start to June! We first encountered JPod at the bottom end of Rosario Strait near Davidson Rock. As we arrived on scene we saw the entire pod moving around the corner of Rosario Strait heading west and the pod was moving at high speed with several members porpoising! The highlight of the trip was when the old girl, J2 "Granny" tailslaped just over a 100 yards from our boat:)

In the afternoon we caught up with Jpod just south of Lime Kiln Whale park and observed the pod actively foraging for Salmon. Some of the youngsters were also playing in the rip tides and kelp. We saw tail slaps and a couple of spy hops as well as a breach!

With the sun in the sky and the whales active, it was a perfect way to start the month of June and Orca month:)
