JPod off East Point! June 7th, 2008.

J1 "Ruffle" with a youngster who was all excited and tail slapping vigorously:)

Another wonderful sunset!
These adventurous passengers spent the entire 3 hour journey upstairs, thankful for the warmth provided by our cruiser jackets.

Several Tailslaps and cartwheels were observed.

Spyhop in the Strait of Georgia

Supercat full of excited passengers. Five Star Whale Watching took 250 passengers to see Jpod this evening and all were thrilled with the experience of seeing the incredible Southern Resident Orcas!

East Point!
Eagles and Harbor Seals near East Point.

Due to gale force winds during the day we cancelled our trips but the wind died down enough for us to set out this evening with a group of excited passengers eager to see Jpod. Despite a long and sometimes bumpy ride, we managed to catch up with Jpod just as they passed East Point on Saturna Island and it was well worth the trip!

We observed several tailslaps, pectoral slaps, cartwheels, spyhops and even a couple of breaches. However, the most exciting aspect of this tour was the stunning vocalizations we heard over the hydrophone! It was so emotional I saw several passengers close to tears they were so moved.

By the time we had to leave Jpod and head for home they were in the Strait of Georgia looking like they may head to the Frazer River. We all sat back on the boat during our journey home reflecting on another spectacular encounter and enjoying a wonderful sunset!

Incredible pictures! To think...I was on Saturna Island that day, and I was at East Point earlier in the day, we saw some dolphins but no orcas...should have come back for sunset that night! But it's all okay, I caught the 2pm tour yesterday and had the time of my life! You guys are fantastic. Thank you so much!
