Large Humpback Whale! July 17th, 2009.

This evening we set out in confused seas and headed south across the Strait of Jan De Fuca. A short while after leaving the harbour we were on scene with a very large Humpback Whale. This was one of the largest Humpbacks seen in the area, it was HUGE! We observed a number of impressive tail flukes before the Humpback went on deep dives. After watching the Humpback for a while we decided to leave the scene and just as we were about to depart the Humpback started to trumpet! It was amazing to hear the noise coming from the Humpback.

Next we headed to the Chain Islets to show our passengers the new Harbor Seal pups. We did see one mother and her new Pup relaxing on one of the rocks, so cute! Whilst at Chain Islets we also saw a very large number of Harlequin Ducks plus a Bald Eagle at Great Chain. It was another wonderful evening on the Salish Sea.
