Breathtaking evening encounter with J & K-pod! June 18th, 2010.
Here are just a few images from this evenings breathtaking encounter with J & K-pod!
We headed out on our third trip of the day hoping that the Orcas had stayed in the same place that we had encountered them on the two previous trips and so they had:) As we arrived on scene we could see the Orcas were spread out in a foraging pattern hunting for Salmon. We could see blows back lit by the setting sun just south of Lime Kiln and other Orcas could be seen south of False Bay.
Our hydrophone picked up some echo-locating as well as some vocalizations, until a deep sea vessels passed off-shore and drowned out the Orcas. Whilst we sat in awe we witnessed some breathtaking breaches and tailslaps!
On our way home we were treated to a stunning sunset to end a perfect day on the Salish Sea:)
