Evening encounter with L41 & Friends! June 19th, 2010
Here are a few image from this evenings incredible encounter with L41 "Mega" and friends near Turn Point!
We headed out this evening as part of a fleet of six boats in search of the Orcas and out vessels, "Fastcat" found Mega and a number of his friends just south of Turn Point:) The Orcas were in resting formation and we marveled at the sight of these Apex predators as they surfaced in perfect unison! Orca rest only half their brain whilst sleeping whilst the other half remains awake so that they can be aware of their surroundings.
We continued to follow the Orcas as they made their way past Turn Point into some impressive current streams.
On our way home we stopped at Mandarte Island to see the bird colony there and also saw a Bald Eagle at Darcy Island. Another stunning sunset was the finale on another incredible evening on the Salish Sea!
