J & K-pod off San Juan Island in the morning! June 25th, 2010.
Here are a few images from this morning's encounter with members of J & K-pod off San Juan Island.
Ron Bates, MMRG, received a report early this morning that calls could be heard on the Lime Kiln Hydrophone. We headed over towards Lime Kiln on our first of three trips today hoping to encounter the Orcas that had been heard on the Hydrophone and sure enough we found members of J & K-pod near False Bay!
Not long after we arrived on scene we saw a number of dramatic breaches:) We also saw several tail slaps, tail lobbing, tail flukes, pectoral fin waves and a number of Spyhops! The Orcas could also be seen foraging (hunting for Salmon).
On our way home we stopped at the Chain Islets to show our passengers the Harbor Seals and various Marine Birds that can be found there.
It was the perfect start to the day!
