J & K-pod off San Juan Island in the morning! June 18th, 2010.
i
Here are a few images from this mornings encounter with members of J & K-pod off San Juan Island.
Our first clue that Orcas were in our area was when we heard calls at 8.30am on the Lime Kiln Hydrophone. We set out on our 10am tour and headed over to Lime Kiln and picked up our first of several groups of Orcas just south of the park. As we sat watching the orcas we observed a lot of foraging for Salmon, spyhops, tailslaps and some amazing breaches by a couple of youngsters!
On our way home we stopped off at the Chain Islets to show our passengers the new Harbor Seal Pups, so cute;) We also saw a Great Blue Heron and several Harlequin Ducks.
What a wonderful way to start the day!
