Amazing encounter with J & L-pod in the afternoon! July 23rd, 2010

Here are just a few images from this afternoon's amazing encounter with J & L-pod plus the Gray Whale in Oak Bay!

We headed out towards Andrew's Bay this afternoon hoping to catch up with J & L-pod. As we arrived on scene we could see Orcas in every direction and they were in a very acrobatic and playful mood:) We saw multiple breaches, spyhops, tailslaps and tail flukes as the Orcas socialized whilst moving north towards Turn Point! With over 60 Orcas together in the same area and in close formation we witnessed a breathtaking encounter, the highlight being one group of L's that were spy-hopping in unison:)

On our way home we stopped off at Oak Bay to show our passengers the Gray Whale that has been happily hanging out in the area for some time. We have now seen this young Gray put on at least 1000lbs!
