Evening encounter with Resident Orcas and Gray Whale! July 3rd, 2010
Here are just a few images from this evenings incredible encounter with members of the Southern Resident Orcas and a Gray Whale!
We headed over to the west side of San Juan Island this evening and encountered members of J & L-pod just south of Lime Kiln Whale Park:) The Orcas were in a very active mode with lots of breaches, tailslaps and cartwheels observed as we sat and watched in awe these magnificent apex predators in their natural environment!
One breach by a male was especially spectacular and just took our breaths away:) The lighting tonight was just beautiful and the sun was reflecting on the dorsal fins of many of the Orca for a stunning effect.
On our way home we stopped in Oak Bay and once again had an encounter with the friendly Gray Whale that has been hanging out there.
A magnificent sunset was the perfect finale to another unforgettable evening:)
