Evening encounter with L-pod, a Minke & Gray Whale!! July 25th, 2010
Here are a few images from our evening encounter with members of L-pod, a Minke Whale and Gray Whale!
We were just north of Lime Kiln Lighthouse when we encountered several members of L-pod including L90 "Ballena", L47 "Marina", L83 "Moonlight" and L91 "Muncher" amongst others. The Orcas were in foraging mode (hunting for Salmon) and moving south.
Just as we were leaving the Orcas a Minke Whale popped to the surface about 400m from our boat!
We also stopped off in Oak Bay to show our passengers the Gray Whale that has taken up residence.
A stunning sunset and full moon were the finale to another wonderful evening trip!
