Resident Orcas and Gray Whale Encounters all day! July 18th, 2010

Here are a few images by Ron Bates, MMRG, from today's encounters with members of J & L-pod plus a Gray Whale. We first encountered members of L & J-pod near Turn Point in the morning and they were moving North East towards Eastpoint. It looked bleak for the afternoon trip but an hour before we departed for our 2pm tour the Orcas turned around and started moving swiftly south East. In fact by the time we headed out on our 2pm tour the Orcas were encountered south of Lime Kiln Lighthouse!

The dorsal fin of the male orca, shaped like a triangle, is as tall as a man!
