July 25th. Wonderful morning encounter with J & L-pod off San Juan Island!
Here are a few images from this mornings Wonderful morning encounter with J & L-pod and a couple of members of K-pod off San Juan Island!
We headed over towards False Bay after hearing reports that a large number of the Resident Orcas had been sighted off San Juan Island. We soon realized that we had all of J & L-pod with a small number of K-pod as well!
As we sat and watched the Orcas move up Island we saw a mother with her calf and the calf was in a very playful mood and breached a couple of times! The Calf was also observed doing Pectoral Waves and a tail lob:)
On our way home we stopped at a large Bait Ball (collection of small schooling fish) and amongst all the Seagulls and diving birds we found a Tufted Puffin:) We also stopped at the Chain Islets to show our passengers the large number of Seagulls and Chicks plus the Harbor Seals & Pups!
